[solved automagically]dvd burner detected... but I can not burn! :(
Hi!
In the latests kernel upgrades (3 or 4 weeks) I lost my dvd burn capabilities...
it was working previously...
apparently dvd drive is detected properly, I can see dvd contents, etc... but brasero do not give me an option to burn on it (just shows .iso file)
that is happening in my desktop, and laptop too.... any idea?

I would check with a command-line burner like cdrkit (wodim) or cdrtools (cdrecord).
At the very least, they'll give you more specific debug messages.

I don't know, I use cdrtools.
Try with sudo.
Also, do a ls -ld /dev/cd*

No. wodim won't burn unless it thinks you are root, but it will list your devices.
Just to be sure, try 'wodim --scanbus'. If it won't give you anything, either, run lshw as root.
Good ideas do not need lots of lies told about them in order to gain public acceptance.

Currently I have this in my fstab (as it was working previously)
/dev/cdrom /media/cdrom auto iocharset=utf8,ro,user,noauto,unhide 0 0
/dev/cdrom1 /media/cdrom1 auto iocharset=utf8,ro,user,noauto,unhide 0 0
/dev/dvd /media/dvd auto ro,user,noauto,unhide 0 0
but I tried commenting those lines without not luck

You don't need any /dev/{cdrom,dvd,whatever} entries to burn. Just /dev/sr0. All you need. The cdrom, dvd, etc. entries are merely symlinks to srX. Try specifying the device manually with your CLI burning program, see if it works.

But I have no sr0 anymore (?)... 
brasero do not detect any burn device, so it offers just creating an iso image...
the same happend in k3b

It is a frequent problem.
Try cdrecord -scanbus
and make sure that you use the real cdrecord and not wodim.

It looks like Linux is not even detecting your optical drive(s).
Can you still use them? For example, can you boot off of a LiveCD?

It looks like Linux is not even detecting your optical drive(s).
Can you still use them? For example, can you boot off of a LiveCD?
well I do no tried that... but I can access to previously burned dvds (for example)
hal automount it (I guess)

It seems quite bizarre that you are able to read already burnt media but are not able to access empty media through your burning program(s). That would mean every single burning program you're trying is malfunctioning... And that does make, unfortunately, user error a plausible explanation.
You are part of the optical group? Do you see the drive when you run the burning programs as root?

running brasero as root shows the same options (none, just iso)....

Brasero is crappy. It manages not to find my burner a lot, too, while cdrskin does its job without such moaning. Did you check dmesg for anything peculiar?

Try with sudo.
For me it works and shows DVD preferencies.
Xfmedia without sudo don't recognised DVD ("Device is busy"), but with sudo works cool
How I can using xfmedia without sudo, from regular user ?
I think I must add my user in one of groups, but I don't know

you should add optical to the user. (gpasswd --help)

well, I have no idea what is happening... but it happens in my desktop and laptop too...
