[abandoned] libdvdnav/libdvdread DVD playback, can't play iso9660's

EDIT:  Didn't get this one solved, but the work-around was simple enough.  Will look into it again after some updates are released.

Not sure what I'm missing here.

Originally I could play all my DVDs using ogle (this was a while back).
After a system update, I could no longer play my non-encrypted DVDs.
A while later, I couldn't play -any- DVDs (didn't do any more updates, no idea what happened).

I then removed everything I could think of (ogle-gui ogle libdvdread libdvdnav libdvdcss) and then removed all my orphans.
Reinstalling the above made no difference.

Now, with a fresh web install of Arch, I decided to try my luck with ogle again.
I can now play my encrypted DVDs but not my non-encrypted backups.

Out of frustration, I borrowed backup DVDs from others until I found something that I could play, and guess what!
When I mount my DVDs manually, everything that plays has a UDF filesystem.
The others, well read the topic title.  All my backups are iso9660!

libdvdread: Using libdvdcss version 1.2.10 for DVD access

libdvdread: Can't open file VIDEO_TS.IFO.
ERROR[ogle_nav]: faild to read VIDEO_TS.IFO
callbacks.on_opendvd_activate(): DVDSetDVDRoot: Root not set

I see that libdvdnav is trying to read UDF when the filesystem is 9660.
So, why did it use to work but not now?
Is a downgrade in order?  Maybe an SVN or GIT version?

Ugh.  ARM doesn't have anything old anymore...
Ugh.  Tried all the other libdvdnav's from AUR.  No changes.

Any ideas?

...mplayer won't play them either.  Changing the title, not an issue with ogle.

Upstream?  Didn't see any related bug reports or forum posts.
Codecs maybe?

If you do a "pacman -Qs | grep dvd" what installed packages does it show?

You could try mounting the DVD and then using the mount point as dvd-device:

mplayer -dvd-device /mnt/dvd dvd://

pacman -Qs reports:  dvd+rw-tools libdvdcss libdvdnav libdvdread.

mplayer -dvd-device /media/dvd dvd://

MPlayer SVN-r29776-4.4.1 (C) 2000-2009 MPlayer Team
141 audio & 306 video codecs
mplayer: could not connect to socket
mplayer: No such file or directory
Failed to open LIRC support. You will not be able to use your remote control.

Playing dvd://.
libdvdread: Using libdvdcss version 1.2.10 for DVD access
libdvdread: Attempting to use device /dev/sr0 mounted on /media/dvd for CSS authentication
libdvdnav:DVDOpenFileUDF:UDFFindFile /VIDEO_TS/VIDEO_TS.IFO failed
libdvdnav:DVDOpenFileUDF:UDFFindFile /VIDEO_TS/VIDEO_TS.BUP failed
libdvdread: Can't open file VIDEO_TS.IFO.
Can't open VMG info!
No stream found to handle url dvd://

Looks kinda like the ogle output I posted above.

I can copy the files to hard drive and play them with mplayer.
Ogle won't play -anything- from a directory but I think that's just the frontend I'm using.

Abandoning this one.  No more responses, and I've been unable to solve it on my own.

Just built another Arch box, 32bit this time, with no SATA or (fake)RAID involved.  Same problem, so I know it's not my hardware.

Workaround for now:  I copied all my backup DVDs to hard drive and am re-burning as UDF-DVD and the new burns play fine.
