chinese input engine help please

Hi I just installed scim-pinyin and am running it on lxde(if that makes a bit of difference). I'm having some very annoying problems. Mainly the program just seems a little... stupid? Now I don't mean stupid in what it's job is for, what I mean is that it can't gues the pinyin well at all. For instance if i type: "nu" for girl it comes up with 怒. Which is wrong and "nu"(the actual character for girl) is in none of my choices. So I'm wondering, is there some sort of configuration I need to do in order to get this thing smarter or maybe is there a better chinese input engine out there?

The best chinese language tool I"ve used is Dim Sum: http://www.mandarintools.com/dimsum.html

The dictionary and other functions are incredible. (I know the screenshot doesn't look like much...but trust me)
dictionary, transalation, pinyin sound files, flash cards, quizes, and even more things on top of that

Install java if you don't have it already

Download: http://www.mandarintools.com/download/DimSum.jar

cd to directory with .jar file

then run this as user:

java -jar filename.jar

oh, and make sure you have some chinese fonts installed. smile

Re: chinese input engine help please

I find scim-pinyin quite smart. Are there any other situations other than 女 that you're having problems with? (As the first reply said, ü should be inputed as v, so nü is nv).
