Touchpad stopped working

I posted before about wine killing my X session, couldn't figure it out so I downgraded my xorg-server package along with a bunch of xf86 packages (including xf86-input-evdev to 2.2.5-1). Now I'm realizing that my touchpad doesn't work and I can't upgrade the evdev package without also upgrading my xorg-server package. It looks like my touchpad isn't even recognized anymore because the touchpad settings tab doesn't even appear in my gnome mouse preferences. What can I do about this?

P.S. I was under the impression that I was using hotplugging but had always changed my mouse settings through my xorg.conf file, why does editing that still work?

EDIT: Is this kind of thread appropriate in Arch Discussion or should this go elsewhere?

Did you downgrade xf86-input-synaptics to the same version as xserver

Nope, because it didn't complain about a dependency problem for that package . How do I know which version of xf86-input-synaptics corresponds to the xorg-server package since they're obviously not the same version number?

Have a look at  this http://schlunix.org/archlinux/ it has a bunch of old packages, choose extra then i686 or x86_64 then download xf86-input-synaptics probably the august one, if not try a different version

I actually downgraded to an older package I had in /var/cache and it worked, thanks!

How do I know which version of xf86-input-synaptics corresponds to the xorg-server package since they're obviously not the same version number?

I think looking at the dates on the package is pretty helpful in this regard.
