Hi everybody, I'm a frenchy user and I decide to post on the english because I saw on your wiki to install awesome trhough pacman and then to install awesome-git through yaourt.
It indicate me after the compilation, during the check of dependancy, some error like :
isn't possible to replace a packet with -U
awesome-git is in conflict with awesome
Do you have some explication please ?
thank you and sorry again for my bad english ![]()

I saw on your wiki to install awesome trhough pacman and then to install awesome-git through yaourt.
Where does it say that? I only skimmed ArchWiki::Awesome quickly, but I didn't see any reference to installing both.
If it is in there somewhere, it is probably just outdated information. If I remember correctly, the awesome-git PKGBUILD used to use a prefix of /usr/local, but at some point it started conforming to Arch packaging standards.

At the top of the wiki page it does state:
Installation
# pacman -S awesomeAwesome-git
# yaourt -S awesome-git
however this means run one or the other, depending on whether you want the latest development version, not both. If you try both you will, as you found out, get a conflict error.

ok, I don't understood the subtility of the language
and so, it means that my problem that I have with shifty (because when I saw this message, I remove awesome to put awesome-git, just to try) doesn't depends on it.
But not have this place on this topic.
Thanks for the clarification !

pacman -U cannot replace packages of different name. If you want to replace awesome with awesome-git you have to use pacman -S (if you have a personal repo) or deinstall awesome explicitely and install awesome-git explicitely.

yeah yeah, when I talk of a probem with shifty, I mean that the basic rc.lua give on the awesome wiki with shifty.lua, all for "lazy man" make me bug the wm. Bug doesn't present if I use only the rc.lua give by default without shifty.
I will see this later, or come back to see you again if don't arrive ![]()
bye
