Hi all,
I am using Kernel26-ice from AUR. I am wondering if it comes with its own .config file, or if it uses the config file of the running kernel? The reason I want to know this is that I want to make some minor changes before compiling (Timer frequency to 1000 Hz and processor family to Core 2).
Can I simply change the config file of the running kernel? If not, how should I do it?
I don't want to do everything from scratch, I would rather want to use yaourt and then only change the .config file.

If you use the kernel from AUR, then why not simply diff the config that it comes with against the default Arch kernel's config?
Should be a piece of cake.
Configuration files are only checked during compilation btw, not at runtime. You can configure the kernel to save the config and have it accessible at runtime in /proc/config.gz, but changing configurations will not alter your running (or installed) kernel(s) in any way whatsoever.

Thanks for your answer.
I realize that the config file will only affect the kernel during compilation. When I call yaourt -S kernel26-ice, what config file does it use? /proc/config.gz?
I simply want to edit the config file which is used during compilation, but I don't know where to find this file.
Best regards,

Seriously.
Read the PKGBUILD.

Seriously, don't use yaourt to install kernels. I use it for everything else, but with kernels you want to modify things yourself, and using 'make config' is a big pain, I prefer gconfig or the like.
And do what B said, first.

Thx, I am fairly new with AUR so I didn't know where to look for this information. I found everything I needed in the PKGBUILD.
ngoonee, you can run menuconfig when you use yaourt. At least when I install kernel26-ice I only have to change one variable in PKGBUILD from "0" to "1" and then it opens menuconfig before compiling.

Yes, kernel26-ice is an exceptionally well-written one in that sense, but I find menuconfig tedious in any case.
Welcome to Arch, in general. As you will (hopefully) have figured out, you're expected to do your own homework first before asking questions . Chances are you'll find solutions anyway, with the wiki and google as your guide.

*ahem* may I retract my statement then? That was made before I realized what an egomaniac iceman81 was =p
