On my desktop I installed Virtualbox from a *.run file I downloaded from the Virtualbox web site. On my laptop I used archlinuxfr to install it. I decided to make both my laptop and desktop pull Virtualbox from archlinuxfr, so I removed Virtualbox from my desktop with the *.run "uninstall" option and tried to install it from archlinuxfr. It cannot find the package even though I followed the Virtualbox instructions on the Archwiki.
I browsed the following directory and I didn't see Virtualbox there either:
http://repo.archlinux.fr/x86_64/
Was it removed? I don't mind installing Virtualbox from .run files if I have to but I'd rather add it to my pacman.conf so it can grab the latest version whenever I sync the packages.
I've tried to do "pacman -Ss virtualbox" and it doesn't find it.
If anyone knows the status (or if I'm just doing something wrong) I'd appreciate it.

Have you tried a different mirror? The Arch repos should have the open-source version "virtualbox-ose".

Is archlinuxfr mirrored? The package virtualbox-ose doesn't come up when I search by doing "pacman -Ss virtualbox" but then again I don't want the OSE edition because I want USB support.

virtualbox-ose is available in community for i686. for x86_64 you have to use virtualbox_bin from aur or use my mirror in which is virtualbox-ose for x86_64.
[vbox]
#virtualbox-ose for x86_64
Server = http://archlinux.ro/~ioni/vbox
Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

On my laptop, which is also 64-bit, I installed virtualbox_bin from archlinuxfr without issues. It even automatically upgraded to 3.1 as soon as I synced my packages after it was released. Today, virtualbox_bin is not there despite the Arch Wiki saying it should be, so that's why I was confused if it was taken away or something.

i think i've saw some discussion in aur-general. they didn't had the approve of virtualbox and the license doesn't allow to redistribute.

Which is why it's not in community either.
Always wondered about that myself - some special french loophole, or just chancing their arms?

I just tried to install virtualbox_bin on my laptop (which used to work) and I can definitely confirm it's gone. It's VERY useful to have a repository for Virtualbox PUEL so I can always have the latest version but it doesn't appear that I'll be able to do that anymore.

Use this, it works fine for me.

http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Bui … Arch_Linux
Plus it is the legal way. An source the distributes virtualbox_ose besides sun, is illegal.

I'll do that from now on. I was just hoping to have a repository in order to keep getting updated automatically. I'll use your technique for now, thank you.

If you use yaourt to install it, you can just run yaourt -Syu --aur to upgrade your system AND any packages you installed from AUR.

That's good to know. I didn't know that.
