Hello.
I have been using uzbl for a while and stopped when the webkit compatibility broke.
Now I am using it again and it is slow as death. Even monsters like Firefox are faster.
Is this common? Are there any optimizations in the config I should be using?
I am using the default config with some extra keybindings for searches and user agent switching.

The cache makes a difference. uzbl is a "barebones" browser, you have to add all the "missing" features yourself.

Doesn't it store cache in $XDG_CACHE_HOME/uzbl on default?

You mean '~/.cache/uzbl'? I don't see anything written into there, anything resembling the stuff I have in '~/.mozilla/firefox/PROFILE.default/Cache'.
WebKit performs poorly in GoogleMaps but other than that it's not bad.
Any specific pages that work slooowly?

Google works great. Gmail and Facebook don't.
It usually goes up to 70-80%, halts for a while, and finishes loading the page.

I don't use Facebook, but can you set Gmail to load as basic html instead of the standard look? It should speed things up considerably. I think it's WebKit's fault and not a thing w/ uzbl's config.

Chromium uses webkit and it is much faster. It has a terrible UI though.
I don't use Facebook or Gmail, but my friend that also uses Arch said that Arch browsers can't display both Facebook chat and Gmail in standard view at the same time. uzbl displays both properly, but slowly.
These are just examples though. As another example, Squirrelmail loads even slower.
What bothers me is that I used uzbl in the past and it was plenty fast.
I think that it has something to do with DNS lookups because once the site is found, it works pretty fast.
