I have an HP printer that it's scanner doesn't want to work in Arch, the reason is this tar file called HPLIP. Every time that I try to follow the directions I get an error when I compile it. So it was suggested to see if anyone could turn this into a PKGBUILD ( very new to Arch ) so I don't know too much about this stuff, Thanks

"pacman -S hpijs" should get you setup with the drivers you want welcome to arch btw http://www.archlinux.org/packages.php?id=691 for more info

Yes I already have that installed. But still It's not working. Printer works as far as printing goes. But xsane and scanning does not work.

I have a HP710 All in One that I use w/HPOJ and ptal-init. You might try that and see if it works for you.

Well I put that in and now it seems that this is the problem,
xsane
Broken pipe
I think that It might have something to do with sane... Before I never got this message I just got the message that no devices were found. Maybe this thread should be moved to the N00bs section ?

 Silly me I also forgot to add that the HPOJ should be uncommented in /ete/sane.d/dll.conf as per another thread in Work Stations titled "HP PSC 1210 All-in-1 setup problems". Ibertus was kind enough to point this out to me. Also, when you configured your printer under CUPS did you select the ptal or parallell port options? I use the ptal. Hope I'm not confusing the issue as I'm definitely no expert. Maybe someone else can chime in with some further options.

It still would be nice to have hplip considering it gives you access to the same sort of HP tools that Win users have access to.

hplip includes drivers for some mfds and scanners.
