Until Chromium gets support for letting me choose what font and which size to use for all web pages, I don't think I'm going to use it much.

Well it respects the font I choose in options in chromium and it changes it on the fly...

Ok. You're right it respects the font, but not the size of the font and the fonts are fuzzy (I never really appreciated low hintinng). The font appearance should not differ in Chrome from the other apps you are using IMO.

The default works fine in KDE4. Also Kmail url links works fine.

Backup by renaming (user)/.config/chromium folder. Start and it will ask few basic questions.
In KDE <System Setting><Default Applications><Web Browser> select "in following browser" type: chromium

How come Java (jre from community) no longer works with this, when it did in chromium-browser-bin from AUR. It shows in in about:plugins, it just doesn't work...no useful terminal output either. Also Java works in Firefox and stuff.

Java is compiled against firefox/xulrunner. Andy told me future versions of openjdk will fix this.

AFAIK it works with the Xmarks or similar extensions.

Yeah I have xmarks working with Chromium. I was wondering about the bookmark sync that is native to the chrome / chromium browser.

It connects to google for 2 things only (afaik):
* Suggestions in the omnibar
* Downloading lists of malicious sites

I'm not sure I'd call download of mal sites contacting home, as it's only downloading data.
With regards to the Omnibar, setting a different search engine as default and using a keyword for google search nulifies this. Is the default chromium/chrome omnibar bar any different to firefox with it's search suggestions?

It does pretty much the same as firefox and other browsers does. It sends you search query to google to display suggestions and it downloads a list of "bad" sites to block them. Both features can be disabled. You should be worried when using their services like gmail, docs etc.. And you should know what these Chromium features I mentioned are about. (see Wikipedia for Chromium/Chrome)

Imho iron is the one to be less trusted here. Why are they making it so hard to get the source? Why does that source not match their binary package? Why do they provide a complete fork for removing features that can simply be disabled in the options menu? Why is there no vcs, bug tracker, a recent version etc.?

I love this becuase Chromium will use my GTK theme in XFCE. Yea! No ugly (in my opinion) baby blue borders and bars and such! The ugly (in my opinion) custom window bars was the main reason I never used Chrome on XP, or revisited the browser on Linux.

Chromium is the name we have given to the open source project and the browser source code that we released and maintain at www.chromium.org. One can compile this source code to get a fully working browser. Google takes this source code, and adds on the Google name and logo, an auto-updater system called GoogleUpdate, and RLZ (described later in this post), and calls this Google Chrome.

About the other "phone home" features, it's like you say, some things can't be avoided (and other browsers do it too anyway) and some can be disabled anyway so it is ok .

This is another great addition to the repos, well done, thumbs up.

I've yet to hear a valid arguement as to why Chromium pulls in Gconf and ignores configuration from the likes of fonts.conf. The UI is huge on Linux, even using GTK the icons and buttons are massive.

Most annoying is that it's fast, noticably faster than Firefox (which at least behaves outside of a DE) but I can't use it because it annoys me too much. UZBL is a no-no for me as I'm a smoke in one hand mouse in the other kind of user who used the keyboard as little as possible!

I've been trying chromium for a few days on a netbook. I like that it uses less space for toolbars at the top. Also the URL for links just pops up at the bottom when you mouse over something so it's not wasting space all the time. It's at least a little more efficient for a small screen than firefox.

I haven't figured out if there's an easy way to integrate delicious bookmarks yet. Also there are a couple other features (like smart card capability) I need in firefox that'll keep me using it at least some of the time.
