[SOLVED] unable to mount external hard drive without root

I've just installed Arch for the first time, having been with ubuntu for the past year, and MS before that. Everything is working great except I can't seem to mount my external hard drive. When I try to mount it in gnome I get a window pop up that says:

"Unable to mount
Not Authorized"

I can mount it if I'm in root using the "mount" command, but once mounted I can only browse it as root, as when I try to access the folder its mounted to, I get the same Not Authorized message. Any suggestions are welcome smile

Also, here are my groups:

I'd suggest it might have something to do with Hal.  See http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/HAL
If you do a forum search you'll likely find tonnes of posts.

bgc1954, you are awsome. that link you gave me was spot on. It turns out it wasn't mounting because I didn't have "ck-launch-session" in my .xinitrc. Works perfectly now, and I'm loving my new arch install:)

edit: how do I mark this thread as solved?
edit2: nvm, i got it
