PKGBUILDs for RPM and DEB

Is it possible to use PKGBUILD and makepkg to build RPMs and DEBs? Has anyone made a tool like this?

I don't think thats possible.

For example, look here to see how to build an .rpm:
http://docs.fedoraproject.org/drafts/rpm-guide-en/

But I'm not sure, what packages you need exactly and where to get them from.

I mean don't we have enough info in a PKGBUILD to make a basic RPM or DEB? It seems like you could just alter the makepkg source a bit to be compatible with the RPM format.

So go ahead and do it. I would be very surprised if anyone else here is interested in doing this, so it's all yours.

Re: PKGBUILDs for RPM and DEB

It should be possible to write scripts to convert a PKGBUILD to a RPM spec file.  I can not remember much of the deb format, but I guess that would be somewhat simple too...   As tomk said, this would be up to you as I have not seen any other interest in it.
