Sylpheed vs. Claws?

Which do you prefer? Are there any real differences in usability?

I've always used Claws, but I don't have a real reason that I use it over Sylpheed.

Hi

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sylpheed should answer a lil bit.
Claws also has more plugins, I think.

But in the end, they are pretty much the same big_smile

When I was using Claws I preferred it to Sylpheed.  At the moment I use Shredder.

Re: Sylpheed vs. Claws?

I was under the impression that claws was forked from sylpheed and is plugin based.

Re: Sylpheed vs. Claws?

When I was search for Tunderbird replacement due to lack of configurability, I had a real trouble deciding between Slypheed and Claws-Mail. It took me about half hour to figure out the difference.
But my conclusion is, Claws has many more tunables, layout and configuration tweaks compared to Slypheed.
Not to mention many small impovements, what deffinately convinced me to use Claws over Slypheed are layouts.
Layouts, that suits any screen size and shape needs.

Re: Sylpheed vs. Claws?

I switched a couple of years ago from claws-mail to sylpheed and, for my use case, sylpheed is better.  I just want to clarify the motivation, also because (IMO) it is not highlighted enough: one could wonder why sylpheed is still alive if claws seems to be better in every aspect.

Although claws-mail has much more features, it has a single-thread/single-process approach, so every time a reading is performed (here including updating RSS feeds or news groups) the UI freezes. Sylpheed instead reads mail and updates the interface incrementally, that is you can use it while it is reading. If you receive lot of emails every day and don't need some advanced feature not provided by sylpheed, this can make a great difference.
