[Solved] Cheese freezes when recording video

I just installed Arch64 on my hp 'pavilion dv4' laptop, and I've been noticing a few odd things. For one, wireless/flash/sound are working (:o) and a 3d-rendering program which I wrote using VTK is running at least twice as fast as it did on Fedora x64.

The one (real) issue I'm having is with Cheese (2.28.1). It lets me take photos, but whenever I try to record video it freezes. I noticed a bug report on the ubuntu lists (https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/unive … 92006.html) about this, but I wanted to check if anyone else has the same issue here before filing a bug report.

edit:
here's the device:

Re: [Solved] Cheese freezes when recording video

Cheese no longer freezes when recording video. This is what I changed;

/etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf

# stop sound locking
options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=1

/etc/modprobe.d/sound

alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel # replace with appropriate kernel module for your card
alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel

Unfortunately, Cheese does not record audio from the built-in microphones (and neither can Audacity). Ironically, this worked in Fedora. Hmm..

Re: [Solved] Cheese freezes when recording video

This is surreal.. Updated to kernel26 2.6.32.2-2 and everything works.

edit:
This was a pretty annoying problem, and I was under the impression that the solution would be outside of kernel-space. But I suppose this proves me wrong;
