I have a new install of Arch in a brand new Dell Optiplex.
Everything seems to be OK, except that Dolphin, the KDE4 file manager, crashes a lot !!!
I've been looking on the web, but aside from old posts I see nothing, nor I see anything in these forums ... so I would like to know; does anyone else have similar problems ?
Any ideas to solve this situation will be appreciated.

Yeah. Dolphin crashes a lot on me too. I think the previews are causing some of the freezing, turning off previews has reduced the crashing, but it still goes down when it wants to. I'm looking for a reliable alternative.

with kdemod stable and even with previews on I never had crashes.
with kdemod 4.4 dolphin crashes alot indeed.

Thanks for the replies guys. I was beginning to think it was just myself.
I noticed the debug run complaints of QT ... I wonder what's the source of the problem though.
Sometimes I just open Dolphin and do nothing and a few minutes later it crashes.
May be I should go back to konqueror ...

Great, I don't have any problems with Dolphin; of course not. ;-)

Do any of you guys use compiz ? While I was using it dolphin was crashing, plasma was crashing, qt was buggy as hell (couldn't change the focus towards a simple text box). I've abandoned my short kde trip because of this, but when I've tried again (this time no compiz, just kwin) everything works like a charm. So I recommend that you try to disable compiz if you are running it and switch back to kwin. Don't know if this will work for you, worked for me though...

No compiz here, just kwin.

Well, while I was typing this yesterday, I had to extract a file in a directory containing a 1.4GB video file and dolphin kinda froze but for 10 sec maybe, I guess it was because of the preview, but it didn't crashed...

I think that nepomuk froze Dolphin. You may disabled nepomuk in system settings.

I've had this problem in the past - Dolphin either super-slow to open or failing to open. Disabling nepomuk fixed it. Confirmed this last night by re-enabling nepomuk - dolphin failed to launch. Disabling nepomuk fixed it again,.

I have no problems with dolphin crashing, nepomuk is enabled but have done any tagging yet, kwin compositing is enabled but still on default settings. I have had some issues where I forgot to logout after an upgrade.

Yes I think the same, I had the same problems in a new version of Dolphin in Gentoo and now I have his problem in Arch
Nepomuk and Semantic Desktop are not ready.

Same here, once I disabled Nepomuk Dolphin stopped crashing. I really hope its better in 4.4 because I would love to use that feature.
