kernel package suggestion

Hi Arch,

I'm a newbie to Arch. I come from Gentoo. I have a suggestion on kernel package, kernel26. Since kernel26 is optimized for i686 only, could you please create some extra kernel packages optimized to other CPUs, or with enabling some frequently used options. For example, kernel26-P4, kernel26-K7, kernel26-IntelCore, kernel26-server, kernel26-desktop...and this would save time for users from installing development tools and source compiling. Also, this should be different from kernel26 packages in AUR, since the kernel configurations of these is the same as kernel26 except processor type option or the most frequently used option, and these kernels need official testing.

Any thoughts?

Re: kernel package suggestion

welcome enihcam

you may want to use the "feature request" feature of the bug tracker if you want developers to see and review that.
my guess is that it's not going to happen. ABS is what you want to use if you need official packages slightly customized.
