Hey guys, I have 4 cards here, but only 3 of them work, I have an old ATI Rage 2, A S3 Savage 4 ( Diamond Stealth III ), An NVIDIA GeForce MX440SE ( Its AGP and its too powerful for my ancient Mobo ), And a Hercules 3D Prophet 4000xt Kyro ( PowerVR chipset ) which works fine but they only release drivers for 2.4 kernels.
Anybody know how I would get any of those cards to work with compiz?

Maybe the ati card will work with the ati or radeon driver but it's such an old card that I doubt it will provide any decent acceleration. The geforce would be the best candidate for the job I guess.
Another thing is that with an old computer you may want to run the smallest number of programs as possible (and lightweight ones at that) so running compiz just for the sake of eye candy may not be the best thing.

R00KIE, When I used windows 2000, I tried the windows 7 compatibilty checker, It said all I needed was another 256mb of ram and it'd run fine, yet I can't run compiz?

The Windows compatibility checker is mostly nonsense. I doubt you would be able to run the special graphics effects under Win 7 with that card so it would be the same for Compiz.

Well ... if only judging by that then why not just put the geforce inside and give it a try, the computer should be able to handle the card just fine, I don't see any reason for concern, the mx440 was not the most power hungry card of the time and at first glance it is the best card of the lot and most probably the one with best driver support.
Then again, if I was at MS and was trying to sell a new OS I wouldn't make a compatibility checker that would say to possible costumers that their computer couldn't run the new OS would I?
