So, this is not a common problem, but an annoying one. Basically, sometimes when X starts it displays on my widescreen monitor in a standard format, leaving a strip on either side of the screen completely unused. Right now I have X auto-detecting my settings, and I'm *assuming* that I am going to have to manually configure my xorg file in order to correct this problem, but I just wanted to get some confirmation before I go mucking around in there.
Also, if this is the case, is there a way to detect the proper sync rates for your monitor? Or is there some sort of "safe" setting you can use for you monitor? My laptop came with a single piece of sales-literature style paper as its manually, and I have no idea what the proper settings are for my monitor (aside from resolution). Possibly, I could contact Toshiba about this, but I doubt the response come quickly, so I would prefer to avoid this.
