Sync to VBlank: Nvidia-settings, Compiz or both?

I enabled SynctoVBlank in Nvidia-settings so that I could enable Triple-Buffer in xorg.conf. But I also had Sync to VBlank enabled in CompizConfig, so I disabled it, thinking that it was probably redundant. However, I see significant tearing without it on.

So, what is the best for Compiz performance? And why aren't they redundant?

IIRC, the drivers use whatever is requested by the program. I always just specify within compiz settings.
