Harsh fonts in Opera Menus with Fluxbox

Using Opera 10.10 with Fluxbox 1.1. Fonts in actual web pages are nice but the Opera menu fonts are very harsh, bright, don't appear to be antialiased and clash with other fonts. This is not the case with Firefox. Here is a screenshot:

I have tried "opera:config" changes to XFT fonts and other changes- to no effect. I have ensured the hsync and vertfresh for my monitor is correc t and I have used nvidia-settings to ensure antialiasing is on. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I previously did not have this problem when using Gnome, but I removed Gnome as I am now using an older, slower computer, and besides, I prefer fluxbox...
