Networkmanager freezes Xorg

Hi!

I just finished a fresh arch install on a 5 year old sony vaio laptop. All went smooth apart from 2 issues:

1. I have to parse noapic to the kernel command line, otherwise the boot hangs at "UDEV populating uevents or smth. But every 5th boot or so it still hangs...

But this one is the most annoying:
2. I want to use Networkmanager, because I think its very powerful on laptops especially when using wireless Lan. I installed it according to the howto in the wiki. Although I did exactly whats mentioned there I run into the same Issue all the time.
I boot, I get GDM, I enter my password and then the screen freezes. no input possible.
Then I reboot and disable the networkmanager daemon in /etc/rc.conf and everythings ok again.

I dont know what to do.

In the wiki here --> http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NetworkManager
it says:
Set hostname

Set hostname

By default NetworkManager 0.7 will do a reverse lookup of your IP to determine your hostname. Generally, this will result in "localhost" or "localhost.localdomain". It will also attempt to manipulate the hostname of the system on the fly which will occasionally break Xorg.

The solution is to create the file /etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf, and add the following:

[main]
plugins = keyfile

[keyfile]
hostname = <your hostname>

Make sure you verify that /etc/hosts is correct before continuing as NetworkManager may have altered it already before you had a chance to change this setting.

Is this my problem?

Can someone please help me solve this issue?

BTW: I could log in 2 times successfully with networkmanager active and connect to a wlan spot but after some seconds it freezes.

Re: Networkmanager freezes Xorg

Are you using Linux 2.6.32 and have hardware that uses ath5k?  You might be affected by this --  http://kerneltrap.org/mailarchive/linux … 21/6657963 -- or another issue -- http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=81930 .  Try downgrading to Linux 2.6.31.

Re: Networkmanager freezes Xorg

hi Wintervenom! thx for your reply.

I am using a Ralink Wirelsss Usb Dongle

Bus 001 Device 005: ID 148f:2573 Ralink Technology, Corp. RT2501USB Wireless Adapter

I dont think my issue is connected to the wlan adapter. My machine works fine with the adapter connected but networkmanager disabled. But if I activate networkmanager in the /etc/rc.conf daemons section then I get the freeze.

Greetings.

kernel I use:

2.6.32-ARCH
