resolution changes at udev step in boot sequence(solved)

Display size and resolution in boot sequence at udev step reduces display to one-fourth normal size and very small type size.

This happened following the install of latest kernel yesterday and today on two different HDD's.

Install included xorg-server.

Perhaps only my system?

FIRST EDIT:  Display is normal until udev step......

Second Edit: System is intel 945gcm  and Dell LCD display x86-64 4GB ram

Re: resolution changes at udev step in boot sequence(solved)

Additional problem relates to display upon reboot.

The display disappears upon reboot with a statement appearing:"cannot display this video mode".

This suggests that the resolution is excessive for my LCD display and is the result of changes introduced by the upgrade to the new kernel along with the xorg-server upgrade.

Occurs on both HDD's after upgrade.

Re: resolution changes at udev step in boot sequence(solved)

This is kernel modesetting and it's expected with 2.6.32 (where it's enabled my default for Intel chips).  But if the resolution is wrong for your monitor, that's a bug.  To work around it, you can either pass the "nomodeset" option to the kernel, or to keep KMS try "video=<connector name>:<proper resolution>".

Re: resolution changes at udev step in boot sequence(solved)

The resolution is wrong but not at all times...only during boot and reboot(or shutdown).

I have no idea what KMS is................

If it occurs only during boot or reboot is that a bug?
