Can't startx as non-root user [Solved]

I have no idea what's going on. I'm pretty sure I have my permissions set correctly, but right now running startx as a non-root user dumps me back out. Here's my log file:

This is a pre-release version of the X server from The X.Org Foundation.
It is not supported in any way.
Bugs may be filed in the bugzilla at http://bugs.freedesktop.org/.
Select the "xorg" product for bugs you find in this release.
Before reporting bugs in pre-release versions please check the
latest version in the X.Org Foundation git repository.

Re: Can't startx as non-root user [Solved]

Do you have a .xinitrc config?  Also do you have anything in it?

Re: Can't startx as non-root user [Solved]

does it looks like X started then it goes back to the console?

If it is like that, you may not have enough space on the /var partition (if it is the case) - it happens to me quite often :\ -

I'm not sure if X started, but my screen does turn on and off (laptop screen) for a few seconds before booting back to console. When it was on, it was just an empty black screen.

I don't even think I have a /var partition. I have a 107MB Ext2 /boot partition (default size during install), a 4.2 GB swap space, 52 GB Ext3 for /, and 443GB Ext3 for /home.

Thinking about it, you might be right.

Your ~/.config is owned by root. This is a problem. You'll want to change its ownership to your non-root user.

Re: Can't startx as non-root user [Solved]

Thanks for the help guys. I figured out my problem, or at least, this problem. I changed my xinitrc:

rl=$(runlevel | grep -o [0-6])

case $rl in
    4) exec gnome-session;;
    5) exec openbox-session;;
esac

to simply

exec gnome-session
