Does Gnome still use fam? What about inotify like KDE?

From what I've read, gamin is better than fam, but inotify is probably the best choice for a filesystem event monitoring tool.  I've been searching the forums and have read some posts dating back to 2006 that suggest that FAM is no longer needed by Gnome and that inotify is used by this DE.  The wiki for Gnome still teaches to use fam however.

What are other Gnome users out there using?

I use gamin only because that's what other GNOME-based distros use.  I haven't really put much thought into it.

I wonder why the wiki still includes fam?  I'm pretty sure it's unnecessary at this point.

Is there any configuration needed for gamin?  Its wiki page for gamin is pretty sparse: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Gamin

No, I think it takes care of itself.  There's no daemon or anything you have to start manually.

In my experience Gamin's performance is patchy, sometimes folder views are not updated on the creation of new files/folders and I need to refresh to see them, a problem I've also encountered on Debian. I prefer to run Fam as a daemon, it has proven more reliable for me.

Gamin is a replacement for FAM that uses inotify to find out when files are updated.
