slow grapics in inspiron 8200

In gnome operations like window dragging maximizing minimizing and anything related to that are "laggy" ... like a half a second slow. In general there is a half-a-second lag after the mouse click in gnome. My system is P4 1.7 mobile ( no cpufreq, so full speed ), video is geforce 4 440 go ( with the nvidia drivers enabled ) 1G ram ( no  swap partition, becouse with swap was the same ). Inside the windows everything works as it should be. Also anything in flash or high graphics in firefox ( or chrome or epiphany ) are extremly slow. For example in windows everything works, without the nvidia drivers, so i don't know... ( for you wise guys installing windows is not an option ).
