[Poll] Power Management Solution?

Hi 

What Screensaver / Power Management applications do you use on your laptops?

I'm very curious because I'm not totally satisfied with my choices: XScreenSaver + Gnome Power Manager.
The big problem is that gpm doesn't blank screen when xscreensaver is started so I need to use xscreensaver power management too (but I can't use only xscreensaver because it lacks many power management features I need)...

cpufrequtils, I don't often use my laptop away from a power source so it's good enough for my needs.

I've never seen gnome power manager work unless the rest of gnome is bought in as well, particularly the "do this after X minutes" functions. ..

It doesn't really "add" functionality, persay, but offers a central folder to configuring all the scripts you would otherwise need to configure manually, and it reads acpi events so that you can configure certain powersaving options to be on/off when on battery, etc. This saves people having to edit the action scripts of acpid.  To the best of my knowledge anything laptop-mode-tools can do, can be done manually as well.

Eye-candy screen savers prevent burn in on CRTs.  CRTs also take a relatively long time to recover from low power states.  LCDs don't really have these problems.  The best thing one can do to "Save" an LCD is to shut off the backlight.  It uses a great deal of power, produces a lot of heat, and, in the case of CCFL (Cold Cathode Flouresent Lamp) backlights [most of them] it preserves some of the 15,000 hour life.

I think this is all a huge mess. Linux is too defragmented in some areas, like in powersaving and audio.

I use gnome-power-manager and laptop-mode, although I have no idea what that means actually.

To automatically control CPU speed:
cpufrequtils http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Cpufrequtils

To enable hibernate:
pm-utils http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pm-utils

I use GNOME. I disabled the screensaver but have the screen turn off after 30 minutes of no use.

I had a lot of fun setting up cpufrequtils by following the wiki. I was disappointed when I went to set up hibernate via pm-utils, because after installing the package and testing it, it just worked. Where is the Linux I used to know??

I am using pm-utils and cpufrequtils, together with a custom script to put my pc to sleep when battery is low. I am also not totally satisfied and I was looking into laptop-mode-tools (and I am a bit confused). What I dont understand: laptop mode tools do everything cpufreq and pm-utils do plus more? If I use all three, will there be conflict between them or do they "cooperate"? I thought you either choose "acpi with cpufreq and pm-utils" or "acpi with laptop-mode-tools" but from what I see here I am confused.

EDIT

my mistake, laptop-mode-tools is for hard disk management ... still I can't find a solution to substitute my scripts (which are megacrap - I just want a good tool to monitor my battery)

I looked at batterymon, I have no tray (just musca+terminals) so it did not offer me anything more than the "acpi" command. Anyway, I looked more into laptop-mode-tools and I like them, so my list is:

xscreensaver - I simply don't understand why would I need something else...
cpufrequtils - to control my CPU
conky - system monitor, including my battery
pm-utils - suspend/hibernate... don't use it often
