Expading size of root partition

I didn't really consider partitioning when I installed arch and by default the root partition is only 7GB. Would it be possible to make this partition larger and my home partition smaller? I would like to approach this withouit reformatting and reinstall arch.

(G)Parted might do the trick...

Re: Expading size of root partition

Easiest way is with a GParted LiveCD
(or any live cd with partitioning software really, I usually use a sidux disk I have around)

Re: Expading size of root partition

gparted is great (see the wiki page on it) but the resize operations can take a LONG time depending on what you need to do.  Might be easier to just tar up your root and home partitions to another HDD or another drive partition and simply use gparted to delete/create new ones (assuming you are happy trading off some of your /home for /).

Re: Expading size of root partition

I agree and personally I find it easier to just reformat and have a fresh install instead of hoping some files don't get messed up.  Plus it never hurts the more you install the quicker you start to understand and learn imo.

Re: Expading size of root partition

I've had troubles with the Gparted LiveCD loading X, personally I like the Parted Magic CD.
