Laptop-mode new feature (ENABLE_AUTO_MODULES) slows down firefox

I noticed in the new .conf file for laptop-mode that there's a new feature called ENABLE_AUTO_MODULES. I wasn't entirely clear about what the modules do that get enabled this way, but decided to give it a try anyway and see if it helped power consumption. The modules effected are listed in the .conf file:

# ac97-powersave
# cpufreq
# dpms-standby
# eee-superhe
# ethernet
# hal-polling
# hdparm
# intel-hda-powersave
# intel-sata-powermgmt
# sched-mc-power-savings
# sched-smt-power-savings
# terminal-blanking
# usb-autosuspend
# wireless-ipw-power
# wireless-iwl-power

After I enabled this firefox started running super slow. It would be slow to startup and shutdown. Pages loaded slower. Menu's dropped down slower. Ajax heavy pages were slow. Everything was just very laggy.

Anyway, I don't need to use this feature and disabling it solved the problem. But it took a while to figure out, so I thought if anyone else was finding firefox to suddenly be very laggy this information might help
