new to arch

well I have been using different linux versions for quite a while, ( started with redhat 5.2 ) , and have played with lots of different configurations etc, but holy cow this has been the most difficult pain in the ars  distribution that i have ever set up... i got x working and sound working got most stuff working but not properly... and then i found the biginners guide... lol I made things much harder than they needed to be, between the biginers guide and this form I think i will just start over.

don't get me wrong I had a blast today trying to make everything work, i must have gotten very spoiled using Ubuntu, but i wanted a change to something i had a bit more control over, guess i found it.

thanks for all the help

That's the best part isn't it? wink It feels great to be able to tweak and setup your own system! Anyway read the beginner's guide it's got everything you will need.

Re: new to arch

Since Arch is a DIY distro probably a good way to learn it the way you did.  Maybe the BG should just say, "If you can figure it out, Arch is for you." big_smile

Love that comment.  Might add ...  if you have to ask, then its not.

Re: new to arch

I'm not sure exactly which thing you'd need to patch, but I'm sure you could grep for cheesgrater and find the proper spot to patch it in at pretty easily. Though, I think it should still mention the install guide on the cd, as some are willing to learn but not at a point where they could just figure it out, especially if it's their only computer.

Both of these right under the main Arch logo (where it says now "A simple, lightweight linux distribution" would be awesome. lol

(You know, something like this really might help scare off some of the "wrong" people, that have been trying to pick up Arch recently...)
