Fluxbox (or other WMs) will not load via freenx

I'm new to arch but I'm on day 5 of this issue. I've installed and configured the freenx package on my arch server. I can successfully connect, authenticate and load KDE on my nx client, however any attempts to do so with Fluxbox as my windows manager result in the following error after authenticating:

in file: ~/.nx/F-C-xxxxx-1000-xxxxxxxx

xrdb: No such file or directory
xrdb: Can't open display ':1000'
xterm Xt error: Can't open display: :1000

My ~/.xinitrc file specifies exec startfluxbox, and my nx client is set to Run the default X client Script on server & New virtual desktop. Configuring the nx client to use startx or xinit on startup will complete the connection and display a black screen.

The package maintainer (tpowa) hasn't been active on these boards since August 2009 or the wiki since 2007, and from my days of searching and reading this seems to be a common issue, so I'm hoping we can figure this out together and help future archers live DE-free.
