Grub freezes

I am dual booting mac osx leopard and arch linux on a macbook 5,2. My filesystem is this:

sda1 is an EFI partition
sda2 is my mac partition
sda3 is my / partition for arch (/boot is in there)
sda4 is my /home partition for arch.

Whenever I try to boot arch I get to the grub screen where you can select Arch Linux and Arch Linux Fallback as the defaults and my keyboard is frozen. I had this problem when I tried installing from a core cd so I installed from an isolinux one. Is there anyway to fix this? I did some searching and haven't found anything. The wierd thing is that I used to have Linux Mint on this computer and it worked fine with grub.

Can I fix the problem and get grub to work, and if so, how?
If I can't, do I have to reinstall the whole system again? And if so, what can I expect due to not having grub? Do I have to have a bootloader? (I use rEFIt so I'm puzzled as to why I should even have a bootloader.

Re: Grub freezes

No error messages. When I get to the splash screen I just can't do anything. It's just frozen.

Re: Grub freezes

Does anyone figure out how to resolve this problem? I am having the same issue here on my macbook white model early 2009.
I have the same partition table as the first post.
