add remote block device to lvm2 volume group [SOLVED]

in order to conserve space or improve security, is it possible to add a remote block device to a local volume group and then create a snapshot of a local logical volume?  if not then what is the preferable way to backup a logical volume when the local block device

okay never mind.  i suppose the easy answer would be to use a large file in the remote directory, mount it on a loopback device of the local host and add the loopback device to the local volume group.
