Hi,
Is the i7 cpu supported here, I have tried 4 times now to install ArchLinux, it dies half way through....

are you using the offline install disc? or ftp install to get the latest packages?

I downloaded the latest cd for both, it dies on both!
And it is always on the package install...

You should check the integritiy of what you download/burn/write to a USB stick.
Do you think Intel would put x86 CPUs on the market that don't follow their own x86 spec? Your CPU probably has nothing to do with it.

I7 - X58 works fine. As suggested, check your install media and/or try a different mirror.

I7 860 S1156, P55, also working.
Turbo mode and rebooting doesn't work tho, but those are kernel issues. Some people have success fixing the reboot issue by telling the kernel in it's bootline to use a different reboot method, does not work for me tho. But perhaps in the future.
Shutdown and suspend works, so i'm happy as is.
