g'day all.
After last night's pacman -Syu (I think the main item was newer kernel), pc is freezing while boot.
I can see all my daemons starting one by one hal, wicd...etc. Last daemon in the rc.conf is "virtualbox" based on code I found here and elsewhere.
It was fine until I did the recent pacman updates. Normally virtualbox @u%ks after kernel upgrades, which works fine after redoing vbox.
This time it says starting daemon virtualbox and halts there.
This is what I tried: to put a "3" at the end of line in the grub menu edit mode, hoping to get a command line. But the bott process is not going that far.
Is there any way I can stop the virtualbox (or any) daemon from running during the boot ptrocess ?
cheers

Sure, just add a 1 at the end of the grub line instead of the 3 you tried, it will boot to single user mode & prompt for root password for maintenance -- which should allow you to edit rc.conf.

idx, thanks for the quick reply.
I tried your suggestion.
It still says
...
...
entering run level 5:
starting this
starting that
...
starting virtualbox
FREEZE...
I must be doing something wrong

err...Put the arch / any Live CD/DVD. Boot, mount, chroot, edit , save, unmount, exit, reboot, enjoy.
*lol*
Hmmmmm ...
bash# unmount
Command not found
bash# enjoy
Command not found
