Hi,
I have a strange issue in Skype since 1 or 2 weeks. I can turn on video in a skype call and others see me, but I don't see myself as I don't see them. Under options I don't see a test video. The device I can select is correct: uvc camera on /dev/video and I can open /dev/video in vlc and it's running perfect.
I have a Logitech C250 and vlc 1.0.4-1, skype 2.1.0.47-2 and kernel is 2.6.32.3-1 and uvc module is loaded. It worked 3 weeks ago; only thing I did was pacman -Syu. As I did several in the meantime, I am not able to track it down to a specific update.
Anyone a hint or same problem?

This problem is also reproducible for me as well. Happend on both my Gentoo and Ubuntu machines. My kernel was running 2.6.31. I have no idea, even now, what the problem is. My webcam is Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000. I haven't looked into what the problem is either so, I can't give any other advise. But I do have the same problem. I can speculate the problem resides in the software itself and not our settings.
Just letting you know.

I'm not sure what wm you're running but I noticed this problem with openbox when I had xcompmgr running. If I killed xcompmgr I had video again. That's a total shot in the dark since I have no idea what you're using.

at least I am not alone ;-) the whole thing sounded a little strange to me.
I use a full kde desktop, but as my camera sends fine and I see myself in vlc, I guess it's skype related. Can I file a bug for skype somewhere?

Run into a similar problem a while ago myself.
But in my case the solution is the reversal of brianhanna's, I had to enable composite (via xcompmgr) in order to have video (I'm using Openbox, BTW).
So, if you're using KDE4, try disable/enable composite and see if it help.

hmm, compositing on/off did not help. But I'll try some other things.
Thanks for your answers, so far!

Hi,
just to close this thread: I removed vlc-plugin, and here I go. Skype video is working again.
