System freeze during file transfer to/from USB HDD

Hi,

I have a very annoying problem. My PC stops responding while file transfers to/from external HDDs. This does not happen every time I transfer files but it happens at least twice a day, especially if I try to tranfer big amounts of data.(Several gigabytes for example.)
I do not have any other issues with my Arch install, it is rock solid.
My hardware is, Athlon X2 5400, 2 gb of RAM, 500 gb SATA hdd, on board 128 Mb Nvidia 61xx VGA, Nforce 430 chipset. My Arch install is up to date with 2.6.32 stock and latest kernel (32 bit), latest KDEMod from Chakra repos (not testing).
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Anil
PS. External HDDs are formatted with NTFS.

Same problem here, I think that it is a kernel problem 'cause it happens as well in my ubuntu installation. I search in the logs but nothing seems unusual. I'm gonna search more...
