For those who didn't catch it, OSNews recently posted an interview with the Arch Linux team:
http://www.osnews.com/story/22692/Arch_Linux_Team
Choice quotes:
I think that people are getting tired of Linux distros trying to be more Windows-like. People see all this automation with 100 links in the chain, only to see one link fail and bring the whole thing crashing down around them. With Arch, they gain awareness of the whole chain, not just the tail end that they see.
People have crazy attitudes about Linux and free software in general. Some people act like it's some sort of holy grail that's going to save us from global warming, swine flu, and World War III. It's just software. Get off the high horse.
I think it was a good interview. Arch Linux has a great team. I was rather disappointed by the user comments. Not many of them were really worth my time. ![]()
EDIT: Here was the request for questions (for reference): http://www.osnews.com/conversation/4af09cb4

Question: What do you like least about Arch Linux?
Pierre Schmitz: It's name is suboptimal for promotion in German speaking countries.
someone elaborate on that for me plz. it sounds hilarious, but i'm sure it's not.

"I know what you're thinking, 'cause right now I'm thinking the same thing. Actually, I've been thinking it ever since I got here:
Why oh why didn't I take the BLUE pill?"

I was wondering the same thing.
Interesting read though, but it sounds like a collection of quotes more than an interview. And what a silly discussion about Wine in the comments, bah!

Allan McRae: I do not care what other people do with their time, much like I doubt they care what I do with mine. So I have no issues if someone rolls yet another distro to scratch an itch they have. You cannot tell people what to do with their time.

I loved Allan's answers, as well. In general the whole dev team comes across as practical. Most importantly (to me personally) there's no religious extremism of the F/OSS sort, or ultra-conservatism in the 'systems were perfect 20 years ago' sense.
Thumbs up!
Allan-Volunteer on the (topic being discussed) mailn lists. You never get the people who matters attention on the forums.
jasonwryan-Installing Arch is a measure of your literacy. Maintaining Arch is a measure of your diligence. Contributing to Arch is a measure of your competence.

Allan's answers are so full of win ![]()
My magic 8-ball says "maybe".
People. Prescription == Getting rid of people.
Computers. You should always use Arch on a computer.
The developers being awesome.
Users. At least the demanding ones...

The repetitive replies to these questions were funny as well. ![]()
What part of the Arch Linux development is the most active?
Thomas Bächler: Definitely the package update monkeys.
Allan McRae: Packaging.
Aaron Griffin: Packaging is by far the most active part, followed closely by Pacman development.
Ionut Biru: Hmmm. Packaging, packaging and packaging.
Ronald van Haren: I suppose that is the packaging part.
Pierre Schmitz: Definitely packaging.
Dan McGee: What part of Arch Linux is most active: packaging.
Hugo Doria: Someone mentioned "packaging" already?
Where is development primarily focused for the Arch Linux team (the installation, pacman, etc)?
All: Packaging.
How I imagined this:
OSNews: So again, in the development of Arch Linux, what is the most important aspect?
All: Packaging, do we have to say more?

Then we should mandate an arbitrary change in pronunciation from Arch as in p[arch]ment to Arch, as in ark....but only in Germany. :P
