java pms - playstation media server not starting correctly/at all

dont' know if it's the right forum, but i guess since it's a multimedia application, i thought i go best here.

i just downloaded and installed the playstation media server from the AUR and installation went fine and all deps are installed.
then i wanted to start that thing, but it didn't quite work like i expectet. i started it from dmenu and it popped up a window without anyting in it. so tried to start it from the console to see the output. so here it is:

and here is a link to the output and the window

as you can see, you can see nothing. i tried to mess around with folder/file permissions in opt/pms like it was suggested in the comments from the aur page - didn't change anything.

so i tried the tar.gz from the official webpage - but with the same result.

the problem in the console output, pms not being able to bind on port, isn't even the first problem, since i can't change the port without a GUI. so i wonder how to bring it up correctly.
i'm using arch x32 with kernel 2.6.32 and currently openjdk6 1.6.2-1
could it be some problem with the java vm or some wrong versioning? or am i missing some other things? if anyone could come up with help and/or solution, i'd be very happy ^^;

Re: java pms - playstation media server not starting correctly/at all

try

pkill -x pms

and running it again. otherwise something else is bound to port 5001 which is pretty unlikely. I have a PS3 too and use mediatomb-svn from the AUR, and would recommend it as an alternative if you can't get this to run

"You can watch for your administrator to install the latest kernel with watch uname -r" - From the watch man page

Re: java pms - playstation media server not starting correctly/at all

If you want to change the port I believe it can be set in /opt/pms/PMS.conf

The ps3mediaserver 1.10.5 build is somewhat old...March '09?. I'm using pms-svn in the AUR with sun's jre and have no issues. I remember having issues with openjdk in the beginning and switching over as I couldn't resolve the problems.

tried the pms-svn from the aur. didn't compile because some strange things with ant.
got fed up and tried mediatomb and it worked out of the box. it's a bit strange, but at least it's working like it's supposed to work. thanks for the tip yikes

has anyone ever got Mediatomb to play Hi-Def? I can never play Blu-Ray rips in MKV format with MediaTomb. neutral

Although it is somewhat off-topic, I have exactly the same question.

I asked for mencoder or ffmpeg settings in the doom9-forum and the lead x264-dev just pointed me towards pms. So I guess I'll be trying pms out (although I'm quite satisfied with mediatomb-svn, except for the HD-stuff...
