Can not connect to VPN-PPTP

Hi,

I have 2 issues relating to VPN-PPTP.

First:

I've been trying to connect at home but so far I've just getting more and more confused.  I could connect once so that it should not be a problem of the modem.  And I have not touched the modem.

Here is the output by NetworkManager:

NetworkManager: <info>  Starting VPN service 'org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.pptp'...
NetworkManager: <info>  VPN service 'org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.pptp' started (org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.pptp), PID 11379

NetworkManager: <debug> [1263789354.001913] ensure_killed(): vpn service pid 11379 cleaned up

Second:
After trying different settings (authentification, MPPE) I switched to the wireless (without VPN).  Then I could ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxxx, but could not ping www.google.com.    I checked /etc/resolv.conf file and it looks ok.

Could anyone help me?  It does not need to be NetworkManager.  I want to get a reliable VPN connection.  Any suggestins?

thanks
