Slim+Fluxbox logs in as root ok but not as normal (sudo-enabled) user

So my main user is in the groups suggested on the wiki, and I've installed fluxbox and slim. Root logs in fine through slim but my ordinary user does not, giving an error message of "Failed to execute login command" which is a tad opaque. It's using the xinitrc method of booting slim if that helps. If you need any further info I'll provide whatever I can.
Cheers,
Me

Please be patient, I'm a n00b on Arch (only 2 years on Ubuntu) so I may say something stupid!
PS thank you to all those who contribute awesomeness to the AUR and the main packages, you guys have made my computer so much more fun to use!

When you say, sudo-enabled user, do you mean you are starting x with sudo?

edit: never mind, you're using slim

Is using slim bad?

No not at all. Its just that, at first I thought you were starting X as root. But you are using a login manager so its irrelevant.
Sorry, I don't know how to help you. Read Shylock's post.

can you disable slim and get logging into flux working at the command line?

$ startx

Also, whats in your ~/.xinitrc
