openal & pulseaudio (ut2004)

hi,
i wanted to play my all-time-fav ut2004 (unreal tournament 2004) with pulseaudio.
so, according to the wiki, i compiled it from ABS. then i also added to the
File: /etc/openal/alsoft.conf

drivers=pulse,alsa

but for some reason ut didnt want to start, and stood still with no message or what so ever. the reason ofc seems to be, that ut couldn start openal.

so i killed ut and removed the drivers-line again: and for some reason it DID work ^^

as i looked in pavucontrol i saw ut2004 as a client with the alsa-plugin! does that mean the wiki isnt correct anymore? that u dont need pulse in your conf???

or could it be that the frequency (44100) is wrong??? but with alsa and pulse it works with no problems. if so, how can i see waht freq a app has???

i have no idea where else to look for error-messages. if u know some logs or "--debug" options... i would like to try them.

OR maybe im fine with the alsa-pulseaudio-plugin for ut2k4? up to now i didnt have any troubles with it, just the wiki seems to be wrong than...

thx

Re: openal & pulseaudio (ut2004)

Look at ~/.ut2004/System/UT2004.log

Should see the line:
Log: ALAudio: Using ALC_EXT_capture to record audio.

yepp, thats excatly the line where ut stops working:
when i enable alsa instead of pulse in alsoft.conf, it shows that line and ut works as usual
but with pulse enabled, ut works till that line, but ofc doesnt show taht line in the config (ut simply freezes in that state)

so wahts the problem? is it with alsa instead of pulse working correctly? i means ut DOES show up in pavucontrol
or do i have to worry, cause eventually the wiki is wrong?

btw i have testing activated ^^ but my openal is from ABS anyway...

Re: openal & pulseaudio (ut2004)

hm i made a test with oss-output and than use padsp

the difference between the alsa-plugin and oss is that the cpu-usage with alsa increases!!!
i felt immeadiatly that ut2004 isnt as smooth as always with that alsa-plugin, so i looked in the system-moitor, and indeed both cpu-cores were at maximum!
padsp/oss solves that problem for me.

i also installed openal from the extra-repository again, and i dont think there is a difference to the 1 from ABS...

Re: openal & pulseaudio (ut2004)

The latest version of openal is 1.11.753 - I suggest you try that.

Re: openal & pulseaudio (ut2004)

omg omg omg THATS IT [Solved] big_smile

but the ABS still isnt uptodate, why? im new to arch and ABS and AUR
i simply replaced the version-number and the md5sum with the new 1 and did makepkg

do u want me to upload my PKGBUILD? i know that u can simply upload it to AUR, but how do u upload somezhing to ABS???
or does the version-numbers of ABS mirror the 1 from whets actually in the repositories?
