Hi
I just installed Arch and gnome, but I have a problem!
In my .xinitrc I have "exce gnome-session", but when I type "startx" I only get to see the gnome splash-screen and after that nothing happens.
I have tried icewm and Enligtenment, here can I log in, but there is none program luncher to start programs from
When I logout of X there there is are some error and warning.
"(ww) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknow."
"(EE) MGA: Faield to load module "mga_hal" (moudule does not exist, 0)"
I have tried to aad mga_hal in my /etc/rc.conf " MODULES=(ide-scsi 3c59x mga_hal)"
But when the coputer boots it say "Fatal: module mga_hal not found"
And still the same problem with gnome, icewm, enlightenment
I have installed "hal"
My Vidio card is Matrox Millennium G450 32Mb SDRAM Duel Head
Does anybody know anything about this? and have a solution.

Unexpected EOF. Missing EndSection keyword?
(EE) Problem parsing the config file
(EE) Error parsing the config file
As it says:
1. open /etc/X11/xorg.conf
2. look for section DRI
3. see if it has "EndSection" at the end (if not, add it!)
4. return to the forums and tell us what happened
the DRI section should look like this:
# Section "DRI"
# Mode 0666
# EndSection
I have it commented, I don't have a good reason to do this - I haven't changed much in my stable xorg since I've changed the computers. I'll research.

# EndSection
"startx" only black screen
2.pacman -S hwd

Why is there no program in the folder programs in Icewm? and why can´t I start Gnome?
Offline
I think you have fixed your X.org the config generated by HWD. That would be one great thing.
Well... I don't use Gnome, I use KDE...
You might want to try (re)moving all the Gnome settings in your ~ directory and restart Gnome. Same thing with IceWM. Maybe bad Xorg startups messed them up.

Yes I have used hwd toogenerated my xorg.conf
I have(re)moving all the Gnome settings in my ~ directory and restart Gnome. The same with IceWM. But the same problem agin
I have install menumaker, and nov can i lunch all programs who is not relateted too gnome? I think I do a new install of arch, there is somthing messed up. but I can´t find it.
Thanks helping me

AFAIK,
extra/menumaker 0.17-1
Python Driven Menu maker for Fluxbox,XFCE,WindowMaker
... so.. menumaker is not for Gnome/KDE. I think so, but I don't use it.
Instead of installing Arch completely, you could try installing gnome/icewm again:
# pacman -Syf gnome
# pacman -Syf icewm
-f = force install
I would suggest 2 more things:
1. (re)move ~/.config & ~/.share from ~ and restart Gnome/IceWM (better restart Xorg also)
2. if (1) doesn't work, move your home dir out of the way, create a new one and log back again. Most likely, some config files are broken.

# pacman -Syf gnome
# pacman -Syf icewm
goes fine
1. (re)move ~/.config & ~/.share from ~ and restart Gnome/IceWM (better restart Xorg also) It dosn´t work
2. if (1) doesn't work, move your home dir out of the way, create a new one and log back again. It donsn´t work
3. I have iven treid too create a new user. The samme problem
I give up and do a new install of arch
Offline
I am back
I have just installed Arch and I can log into Gnome
It´s most likely to be some kind of config file which has been broken.
A happy Arch-Gnome user

Well, usually breaking Linux (& reinstalling) happens just once... and then you learn how not to break it.
My installation has been ok for 9 months and it also suffered a relocation on my new computer (the old one runs the origial installation, reconfigured as a router/DHCP server for my LAN) - this is what I really like about Linux // do this with a Windows installation.. and see if/how it works.
Good luck!

Well... yeah... it can happen...
KDE doesn't work either if access to the loopback interface is restricted. I didn't experience this though.
