Re: Shut down?

Running "shutdown now" as root should work.

Re: Shut down?

There are so much possibilities! big_smile I'll add

halt

to the list, at least it takes less keystrokes than the others smile

Re: Shut down?

sudo shutdown -h now

tells the computer to shutdown, don't start up again, and do it now.

oh yeah, and read "man shutdown"

since Linux/Unix was originally designed for large server / multi-user machines that were intended to only be shutdown for maintenance,
the shutdown command is designed with several interesting features that increase the flexibility,  such as scheduling time to shut down, forcing fsck on reboot,
and warning all logged in users that the machine will shutdown at time x.  because of all of this, it's a little hard to figure out at first, I used to just yank
the plug on my 'puter before I figured this out.

Re: Shut down?

there's probably an easier way though, what display manager/desktop environment are you using?

P.S. actually windows has timed shutdown too
