Hello all. I'm a newbie to Arch. Used Ubuntu and its variants for a while now, and fancied something different. Something abit lighter too.
I'm pleased I managed to battle through the install from SD card malarky, but I have now run into a abit of a problem with my EEE PC 900.
The issue is related to xorg. I followed the eeepc guide here, but it mentions installing some xf86 packages, most downoad okay, but xf86-input-intel is not found. Then when i first tried startx, the screen went white - distored. and hung the system. I had to do a hard reset as even CTRL+ALT+F2 etc wasn't working. Ever since, I cannot even get that far now. I am getting the following errors, listed below.
[root@EEE900 ~]# startx
hostname: Unknown host
/usr/bin/startx: line 183: 1552 Segmentation fault xauth -q -f "$xserverauthfile" <<EOF
add :$dummy . $mcookie
EOF/usr/bin/startx: line 168: 1556 Segmentation fault xauth -q <<EOF
add $displayname . $mcookie
EOF/usr/bin/startx: line 168: 1560 Segmentation fault xauth -q <<EOF
add $displayname . $mcookie
EOF/usr/bin/startx: line 196: 1561 Segmentation fault xinit "$client" $clientargs -- "$server" $display $serverargs
/usr/bin/startx: line 209: 1562 Segmentation fault xauth remove $removelist
Hopefully someone can shed some light on my issues, many thanks!

Just read some more on the wiki, and realised I didn't supply enough info, here we go! many thanks!
xorg.conf = http://dpaste.com/149470/
Xorg.0.log = http://dpaste.com/149471/
.xinitrc = http://dpaste.com/149472/

Try deleting your xorg.conf file (or rename it something else). I have been using Arch on my eeePC 900 without an xorg, and it is all working perfectly for me with the standard kernel.

Also, it looks like your hostname is not set. Check your /etc/rc.conf and set a sane hostname for your computer. xauth can be very unhappy if you haven't set a hostname.

thanks for the responses guys.
hw-tph, thanks for the tip. I already had set a hostname, as you can see it says 'root@EEE900' - EEE900 is in the rc.conf. but it was erroring because I hadnt put EEE900 in /etc/hosts as well.
rsambuca, I tried it without an xorg.conf and still no joy. I got fed up and decided to start a fresh and reinstall. I've done everything the same again, but this time its working! hello xfce!
