Random Crashes. How can I start to diagnose problem.

Just purely random and either the app just dissapears or the sys locks up, X don't respond at all and needs a reboot. Only thing is it's only when I'm runnin things todo with 3D-ness, Second Life, Eve Online etc.

all thats in dmesg | tail is this.

It's old hardware mostly. Shuttle SN45G, Barton XP 2500+, 1Gb RAM, 7600GS graphics card. Not got anythin clocked. I'm thinkin it's just unlucky with older hardware, but would like to find a log, confirm it etc.

Cheers

You better check /var/log/Xorg.0.log . This should tell you what went wrong

Re: Random Crashes. How can I start to diagnose problem.

Ok right I've tried a couple of things to no avail. First I took all the extra gumph out my xorg.conf so now it's just...

Section "Device"
    Identifier "Device0"
    Driver "nvidia"
    VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation"
EndSection

Everything still works as before. Wonderin why it's needed tbh, but didn't seem to help with the random crashin.

So I looked through the log I posted above and all I could see was a couple things bout acpi so I installed acpi and acpid and tried that. Still gettin the same issues though. Is there any logs that will tell me exactly what the graphics cards doin @ the point of a program dropout etc?

Re: Random Crashes. How can I start to diagnose problem.

Just a lil update. I sorted things. Were heat issue. g-card fan wasn't doin it's job. Put a lil regular house fan pointin @ it and the crashin stopped. It's always the heat... *mutters*
