Uninstall nvidia and Install ATI

Hi,
I was using a nvidia 8600GT card on arch x86 which runs all good but only until I upgraded to ATI 4850. Now as expected arch refuses to load xorg or graphical login. Could anyone guide me or summarize what I need to do in order to get the graphical interface back on my desktop. Thanks.

Re: Uninstall nvidia and Install ATI

You need the ATI driver which is called xf86-video-ati.  It should work without an xorg.conf file, so just remove the nvidia driver, install xf86-video-ati and you should be good.

Re: Uninstall nvidia and Install ATI

You have to pacman -Rd it since it provides libgl. Many, many programs depend on libgl and you don't want to uninstall them. Don't forget to install libgl if it is no dependency of xf86-video-ati
