Ubuntu / hal / devicekit

Ubuntu is boasting that they have completely removed the hal package. How did they do that? I mean - I thought it is the app that decides whether it uses hal or devicekit, and while gnome uses the latter, kde (afaik) uses the good old hal. So does xorg.

So what am I missing here? Did Ubuntu team do a lot of hacking to become independent of hal? Or am I just wrong and misinformed :)

It's not that I have something against hal. I'm just curious :)

Re: Ubuntu / hal / devicekit

Ubuntu is testing Lucid, which uses the latest Xorg and friends--which is where/when the removal of HAL will occur--i.e. April.  It has NOT occured in a stable release yet on Ubuntu.

In Arch, we need the new Xorg et al to simply hit stable.  Which will be "WIR"

Re: Ubuntu / hal / devicekit

Thanks.

I wonder if I would see any difference between hal and devkit :)

Re: Ubuntu / hal / devicekit

Will I be able to use hal with the new non-hal Xorg?
I kinda like hal.

Even if it is homicidal and crazy. big_smile

the future xorg will have udev support and new configurations in /etc/X11/xorg.d or something.

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.
