A decent WhereIsIt alternative? (a media catalogue program?)

Hi, I've just started looking around, but can't find anything that would suit my needs.
Until some time ago, I've been using WhereIsIt via WINE, and it worked fine, but now I can't get it to refresh the newly-inserted DVD (i.e., I scan one DVD, it puts the data in the catalogue, but when I take out the DVD and put a new one inside, WINE doesn't seem to recognise the change).

I've stumbled on an application called GWhere, and it works fine, except for the same problem - I'd have to restart the app every time I want to put a new DVD into the catalogue. (needless to say this can get pretty frustrating since I've got about three hundred DVDs to scan and put in catalogue).
This led me to think I have a problem with my HAL... or something like that on a system level.

If anyone can recommend me any other application (preferrably a KDE application, but a GTK+ app will also do without a problem), or can shed some light on the issue I'm having, I'd be very grateful.

Thanks! Up till now, cdcat seems working fine, although the GUI is rather unpleasant
And with all the updates going on (and the fact that cdcat is no longer being developed), it's questionable how long it is going to compile.
gnomecatalog doesn't work properly for me, probably because I'm on KDE.

I've alse found Tellico and GCStar; Tellico seems rather slow for scanning my media, and I'm yet to find my way around GCStar...
any other ideas? do you know perhaps how I can change the looks of cdcat if I'm under KDE 4? TIA

Been using that for my external HDD and GWhere for optical disks - and yes, that's a HAL problem/issue you're having, but I'm not sure if it's HAL's or GWhere's fault (I believe it's so because it wasn't a problem on Mint - something to do with where stuff gets mounted and what GWhere expects, don't remember it really, it's been a long time since I used it).

GWhere expects stuff to be mounted on several different mountpoints, one of which is "/media/<volume_name>". However, I cannot enter my own path where stuff is mounted in GWhere (this didn't work on Arch or Ubuntu, I've just tested it), and the available mountpoints don't change when I change the DVD. For example, I scan a DVD labelled "eBooks 01" (mounted on "/media/eBooks\ 01") with GWhere, and everything goes fine. Then I take out the DVD and put in the next one, labelled "eBooks 02" (mounted on "/media/eBooks\ 02"), and GWhere still offers me the first one ("/media/eBooks\ 01") only.

An acceptable workaround for me would be to mount all my DVDs under the same mountpoint (such as "/media/optical_disc"), as I have stated here, but I don't know how to do that
Any ideas?

edit: Do you happen to have a PKGBUILD for VVV? it's not on the repos or the AUR...

I have just the binaries.

I think I ended up mounting everything manually so GWhere wouldn't complain the last time.
