Xorg upgrade causes X to crash rndmly + Firefox optimized gifs flash

After a recent upgrade, I've had two issues occuring:
1. X crashing into unloginable console: This one is new, although one of my friends suggests it maybe my hard drive failing (I've had random crashes before, but it was just the screen freezing). Even if I've turned on the computer for a short amount of time, sometimes it'll automatically drop to a blank terminal. The only way around this is to restart my pc. If it helps, I'll try to grab an error log the next time this happens.

2. Optimized gifs are flashy in firefox 3.6.2. It's easiest to see the error here: http://meowlaplz.deviantart.com/

3. Alsa's not working: Even when I unmute it. I'm not sure why. <-- No longer applicable

The upgrade that I did recently is copy-pasted from my /var/log/pacman.log
