vga out to tv problem

i go and buy a vga-to-composite/svideo cable and plugin to my laptop. and using yellow composite cable to connect tv. but problem is tv not function. but i using svideo port from laptop to tv svideo with no problem. is that the vga-to-composite/svideo cable got problem?

i'm using nvidia card, archlinux64, fluxbox.

and my tv didn't got vga port, it's normal flat tv.

What VESA resolution did you try using?  Composite video (video that includes the luminance [brightness] and chromanance [color]) encoded on an NTSC or PAL is good to 640x480 at best.  The S-video has the advantage that the two are at least delivered to the display separately.

Never-the-less, Composite or S-video will have bandwidth limitations that make them unsuitable for driving modern, high def TVs.
You really need to find a DVI, HDMI, or at least RGB (component) solution.
